Unpopular Opinion

With all the talk about the war on terrorism, some key facts seem to forgotten.
Is it possible that the only serious threat al qaeda poses is to the soldiers that we bring to their doorstep.
Maybe it's because news papers are afraid of losing popularity; being seen as delegitimizing the deaths of all those who lost their lives in 9/11, or maybe printing stories about how al qeada really isn't that scary simply doesn't sell newspapers.
Either way, the press seems to be ignoring a view that i personally have held for many years of war now.

What's with the zeitgeist for ignoring non-sensationalist news.
Is the american populace so stupid that we prefer to be shocked than informed?

  1. I'm a more than a bit surprised that you actually think that Al-Queda doesn't pose a global threat. the 1993 & 2001 WTC attacks the 2000 U.S.S Cole bombing, they were key in helping with the Mumbai attacks in '08 plus the dozens of successful and unsuccessful attacks around the world. As far the media is concerned, the left will never miss an opportunity to bash both wars and come to the defense of terrorists. Im not sure what media outlets you follow but they're the wrong ones my friend.

  2. I'll tackle that in reverse order.
One, i don't follow media outlets, i use up all my time alloted for bullshit going to college classes.
Two, i'm not really sure what it means that the left will never miss an opportunity to bash both wars and come to the defense of terrorists. I guess that's because i don't read the news, though.
I wasn't aware that Al Qaeda had anything to do with Mumbai, but it only proves my point.
USS cole, i also don't believe that simply because they took credit, they actually did it. Even if they did, it further proves my point.
WTC attacks, theoretically, we weren't looking out for, which is why they weren't stopped even though american agencies had the intelligence. (Or, maybe, the information, but not the intelligence).

A serious global threat? I seriously doubt it. Not that it's impossible, i don't really know, nor do i believe that if i read an article arguing one way or the other i would have any better clue. I give little to no credibility to the news, which may be a fault of mine, and is certainly a issue when arguing politics, but that's the role i've been forced into.

What kind of threat to a seriously not doubt Al Qeada is?
    A local threat.
The fact that they could blow up a ship docked in yemen should come to no surprise to anybody. I argue that by "bringing the fight to them" we're not putting them in danger, or putting the pressure on them, we just make it easier for them to kill us.
Osama bin laden is not scared for his life (if he's alive) because we're burning down afghani poppy fields. But the farmers of those fields certainly are, and they certainly are scared enough to shoot back.
